Movie Night on Tues., September 1 is our major fundraiser for the William D. McIntyre Scholarship.  We could use help from all of you in the following ways:

• Sign up to be reminded via Mobilize!
• Come! – plan on attending
• Bring friends – bring your 10 best friends with you (and have them invite even more!)
• Bring money – grab bags will be available for donations AND “Buffalo Proud” raffle basket tickets can be purchased (drawing immediately following the movie.)
• Bring an appetizer or sweet treat to share (optional)
• Help set up (5:40 pm) or clean up after the movie (optional)
• Help make all who attend the movie feel welcome and appreciated

Please support these William D. McIntyre Scholarship fundraisers. In the past four years, twelve $500 McIntyre scholarships have been awarded to Johnson County graduating High School seniors.

Film Night to Benefit Local Scholarship

• Social hour with complimentary appetizers, 6:00-7:00. Theater concessions will also be available for purchase.
• Suggested donation at the door — $10.00
• Proceeds from both fundraisers directly fund the William D. McIntyre scholarship program and JC graduating seniors.
• These scholarships are offered by the JC Democrats, but political affiliation of applicants is not identified nor considered in awarding scholarships.

Tickets for the“Buffalo Proud” Basket Raffle

are on sale NOW at the JC Library! 1 for $5 or 5 for $20. This year’s raffle basket contains a wide variety of merchandise featuring Buffalo – both the animal and the place we call home. Basket’s value is over $200.

Drawing will be held at the showing of Truth and Treason on Sept. 1st at the Buffalo Theater.

This year, the JC Dems CCC voted to shift from monthly to quarterly business meetings. (The next business meeting will be on October 6, 2026.) We’re using the time in the other months to plan and visit informally and socially. All are welcome at Bomber Mountain Civic Center (Sheridan College) Room 104 at 6pm. First Tuesday of the month.

On Tuesday, Aug. 4, those attending discussed a wide number of topics and got to know each other better while developing ideas to move forward as a group. It was fun to entertain big ideas, explore priorities, and to think about how we can be Here For Good both locally and on the planet.

NOW – The “Buffalo Proud” Raffle basket, a fundraiser for the William D. McIntyre Memorial Scholarship, is on display at the JC Library and tickets are on sale at the circulation desk – 1 ticket for $5 and 5 tickets for $20. Drawing will be held on Sept 1st.

Aug. 15^th – Adopt a Highway, starting at 8 am (to beat the heat) at Bomgaars parking lot. Bring gloves and clothing for any weather. Join us for treats together after the work is done.

Aug. 18^th – Primary election day!

Sept. 1st – Movie night featuring the 2025 full length feature film Truth and Treason– also a fundraiser for the McIntyre Scholarship – will be on Sept. 1^st at the Buffalo Theater. Suggested donation is $10. Complimentary refreshments during the social hour from 6:00 to 7:00. Movie will start at 7 pm. Winning ticket for the raffle basket will be drawn at the movie.

Sept. 5^th – Potluck gathering of Dems from Johnson and Sheridan Counties at Kearney Hall. A great opportunity to get to know fellow Dems and become involved in mutual efforts.

• 1 Zephyr baseball cap featuring a many-colored embroidered bison

Bill worked hard as a logger in the uranium fields and a pumper in the Salt Creek oil field before moving with his family to a ranch east of Kaycee where he and his wife, Dixie, raised three sons. He always valued education and the importance of students having a variety of educational options.

In his retirement, Bill continued to serve others as a valuable member of the Johnson County Public Library Board of Trustees, a Board member and volunteer for the Hoofprints of the Past Museum, drove the K.A.T.S. bus in Kaycee and served as Chairman of the Johnson County Democratic Party for several terms.

In memory of Bill’s leadership and outstanding community contributions, the William D. McIntyre Scholarship was created. Since the scholarship’s creation, twelve scholarships of $500 each have been
awarded to graduating HS students from Buffalo and Kaycee.

Proceeds from this raffle directly fund the scholarship program and support Johnson County graduating seniors.

Although the scholarship is offered by the Johnson County Democrats, political affiliation of applicants is not identified nor considered in awarding scholarships.

Call to Order: 6:00pm, five voting members in attendance.

Miscellany:

• June 6 weekend- attendees discussed. NTR Dinner- tickets sold out. Potential meets ups among planning attendees briefly discussed.

Old Business: 

• Announcement for WDM Scholarship Foundation posted in Buffalo paper.
• Auction basket for June 6 weekend cam together wonderfully with local donations.
• External Organizing- “meetings” that aren’t formal meetings to get more people involved. Organization of involvement and organization discussed. Information on elected involvement/office running to display campaign inclusion and community action. Motion was made and passed to adopt quarterly business CCC meeting and monthly gathering on first Tuesday of each month. A calendar to be prepared and circulated with next quarterly CCC meeting to take place on October 6th.

New Business:

• Democracy Summer Program discussed- posters posted around town.

Other Business:

• No Kings protest to be held June 14th. Watch parties encouraged with Sheridans events to be determined.
