The Johnson County Democratic Party supports the U.S. and Wyoming State Constitutions to ensure that every citizen of this great country and state enjoys the unalienable rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

Fairness & Equality – we support:

  • the Rule of Law applied to all
  • civil liberties: freedom of speech, press, religion, assembly, petition, the right to bear arms, protection against unreasonable searches
  • Habeas Corpus and due process for all
  • hiring and promotions based on merit rather than political patronage or favoritism
  • passage of the Equal Rights Amendment
  • marriage equality
  • the rights of federally recognized tribes as Sovereign Nations

Good Government Practices – we support:

  • fiscal responsibility with balanced budgets and minimal debt
  • the separation of church and state
  • unbiased enforcement of laws
  • transparency and accountability
  • the use of scientific research and data to develop public policy
  • strengthening Social Security and other Government-sponsored safety nets
  • efforts to block for-profit privatization of prisons, Post Office, hospitals, etc.
  • equitable progressive tax system including tax on investment income
  • Social Security taxes on all forms of investment income
  • full lobbyist disclosure
  • ban on insider trading for all government employees
  • restoration of Glass-Steagall Act
  • independent review of all proposed legislation for Constitutional integrity
  • an amendment addressing term limits
  • commonsense research-based gun laws
  • an independent non-partisan agency to develop and regulate A.I. technologies
  • restoring the constitutional authority of Congress alone to declare war

Free and Fair Elections – we support:

  • policies that facilitate voter participation by all eligible citizens
  • a non-partisan redistricting commission
  • campaign reform to correct Citizens United and abolish “Super PACS”
  • full campaign contributions disclosure
  • open primaries and Ranked Choice Voting
  • restoring voting rights for people with fully adjudicated felonies
  • abolishing the Electoral College
  • making all municipal, county and state elective offices non-partisan
  • reinstatement of the Fairness Doctrine

A Healthy Economy – we support:

  • US-based energy production, mining, manufacturing and agriculture to meet domestic and defense needs
  • economic diversification
  • equitable distribution of state and federal funding
  • equitable and proportional business taxation
  • fair compensation to the state of Wyoming for extraction of resources
  • fair labor laws and policies
  • equal pay for equal work
  • the right to unionize
  • a livable wage for all workers
  • investment plans to facilitate a living retirement
  • energy diversification
  • universal and affordable access to broadband internet
  • job training programs to address poverty
  • affordable housing and government-guaranteed low interest loans
  • protected family leave
  • affordable, accessible childcare
  • public funding for visual and performing arts
  • electric vehicle infrastructure to improve tourism in Wyoming

Quality Healthcare – we support:

  • a nationwide, universal, single-payer comprehensive healthcare system
  • the expansion of Medicaid
  • increased funding for public health services
  • independence of the doctor/patient relationship
  • reproductive choice
  • efforts to treat and alleviate dependency and addiction.
  • legalization of medical marijuana
  • regulation of prescription drug pricing
  • comprehensive care for all veterans, including mental health

Quality Education – we support:

  • public funding for all public education
  • equal access to education for students of all abilities
  • the academic freedom of educators
  • the University of Wyoming and technical and trade programs
  • teaching children how to think, rather than what to think
  • public libraries, freedom to read, and oppose book bans
  • a well-rounded curriculum including civics and personal finance
  • teacher training and certification programs for all teachers
  • competitive wages to ensure quality teacher candidates

Public Lands – we support:

  • balancing the need to maintain natural environments with public recreational access and resource management
  • preservation of wilderness areas
  • stewardship of Wyoming lands by indigenous peoples
  • continued federal management, access to, and restoration of our public lands
  • assurance of public input on decisions related to public lands
  • public lands in public hands

Conservation – we support:

  • efforts to protect clean air, land, water, wildlife, and open spaces
  • development handled responsibly with regard for our wildlife
  • use of renewables as part of a diverse energy economy
  • efforts to reduce the impacts of climate change
  • funding for a statewide and locally-designed recycling programs
  • mass transportation infrastructure that reduces pollution
  • regulation of high-energy use water and high-noise industries
  • rejoining the Paris Climate Treaty

National Defense – we support:

  • maintaining the US as the most technologically advanced and combat-ready nation in the world
  • onshore technological development for weapons systems including the mining of all materials and manufacturing
  • an increased role of National Counter-intelligence and Security
  • an educational system designed for National Defense needs with an evolving tech and science curriculum
  • laboratory environments conducive to multidisciplinary innovative design
  • ongoing cooperation with our allies in developing weapon systems

International Affairs – we support:

  • Trade agreements and tariffs that support US businesses
  • foreign policy that reflects and promotes the principles of freedom, human rights, compassion, and economic stability without the use of force
  • collaborative international efforts to address global issues
  • mutual arms reductions treaties for nuclear weapons, chemical and biological weapons and landmines
  • USAID
  • international laws pertaining to armed forces and nuclear proliferation

Immigration – we support:

  • comprehensive immigration reform including a path to citizenship
  • effective border security that respects human rights
  • increased number of justices to handle immigration requests
  • extensive vetting, training and oversight of ICE and Border Patrol agents
  • expedited citizenship for military veterans and their families and those who have aided US military in foreign operations
  • the abolishment of ICE detention and deportation centers
  • free legal immigration representation
